There is a small children's playground and a lovely walk beside the River Dart to enjoy where we regularly have sightings of wild otters.

Don't forget David, and our team of Rachel, Sophie and Lily are always on hand to talk about the otters and butterflies and our conservation work at otter feeding time and any other time during your visit.

We are open for "Otter Experiences" throughout the year but pre-booking is essential.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted.

As part of our animal management responsible biosecurity is crucial to the health and wellbeing of our animals. This also covers any animals who enter the Sanctuary and we are responsible for making sure any pathogens entering or leaving our premises are kept to a minimum.

We are sure that the majority of our visitors owning dogs are responsible and their dogs are well behaved. However it is not possible to predict how our animals might react, or visitors dogs, during an encounter so reasonable control measures are required. The butterfly house is also very hot and humid in which dogs can quickly become distressed.

Assistance Dogs

We fully appreciate the importance of assistance dogs but our policy is based around animal welfare and biosecurity. It is not possible to draw an objective distinction between assistance dogs and others to warrant an exception.

Disabled Access
We are wheelchair friendly, but some of the fences around the otter pens are too high to see over while seated and some pathways a little narrow. So we  ask those using wheelchairs to chat to our keepers who will help you find the best vantage points.

Don't forget we always advise where animals and wildlife are concerned for good health and hygiene reasons always wash your hands after your visit.

Remember otters can bite so parents please supervise your children at all times.
